An all-female flight crew, including pop singer Katy Perry, boarded a Blue Origin spacecraft Monday that launched them into outer space and brought them back to Earth.
The round trip on Amazon founder Jeff Bezos’ Blue Origin New Shephard 31 rocket ship – the company’s 11th human flight – took less than 11 minutes.
Footage showed the crew, which included Bezos’ girlfriend Lauren Sanchez and CBS personality Gayle King, gazing at Earth while floating weightlessly in zero gravity.
Crew members could be heard screaming as a capsule plunged them back to Earth, appearing to have a rough landing.
Perry kissed dirt in Van Horn, Texas, after exiting the spacecraft.
Ahead of the flight, the crew spoke to the New Shephard 31 rocket, telling the ship they believed in it, with Perry absurdly informing Elle Magazine, “Space is going to finally be glam,” and that they planned to put the “‘ass’ in astronaut.”
Many on social media, including rapper Azealia Banks, criticized the space stunt as fake.
Others claimed the logo on the crew’s costumes formed an inverted baphomet image, symbolic of the left’s deep devotion to Satan.
Interviewed about the trip, the first black female astronaut, Mae Jemison, ridiculously corrected a CBS reporter who said the mission was important for “mankind” telling him instead to say “humankind.”
“Including today’s crew, New Shepard has now flown 58 people to space, including four people who have flown twice,” Blue Origin noted on its website.
Compared to Elon Musk’s SpaceX, which routinely launches astronauts into orbit and returns its rockets, Bezos’ Blue Origin has a long way to go, since the company’s rockets merely release a capsule at the edge of space with the capsule quickly descending back to Earth.
“Rockets from Musk’s Space X Falcon 9 family have launched 469 times. By contrast, Blue Origin has completed a mere 31 successful launches of its New Shepard vehicle, including 11 crewed suborbital flights,” reports The Guardian.
